Have you found a pet?
Please post to our Lost & Found group on Facebook in order to find the animals owners.
Please include a photo and the road name and area in which you have found the animal, as this makes it quicker and easier for us to find a volunteer to assist you if needed!
We will ask a volunteer to scan the animal for a microchip, alternatively if it is safe to do so you can take the animal to any vet to scan.
If you have found a dog – please check the collar, if there is one, for identifying information.
Please contain the dog if it is safe to do so, ie the dog is friendly, and call your local dog warden. The phone number will vary depending on your area – you will find it on your local council’s website.
If you are taking the dog into your home to wait for the warden, please do not put your own animals at risk and keep them separate from each other.
If you have found a cat, please check the collar, if there is one, for identifying information.
If a microchip has not been found either by one of our volunteers or a vet, and the cat is in good health, you will need to apply a paper/temporary collar and release the cat back where you found it, if safe to do so.
A paper collar is a strip of paper with your phone number on, attached with sellotape at either end. You can also attach a note to a collar in the same fashion if the cat is already wearing one.

Tips for missing pets
Check your own home & garden thoroughly. Particularly with cats, reptiles, ferrets and other small animals.
Make flyers with a clear photo of your pet, its name, a brief description, and your contact information and distribute these.
Get onto social media and post on your local community page and any lost and found pages. Pippa’s Army page covers Havering & Thurrock.
Visit animal shelters and rescue centres in person, as descriptions can vary. Many shelters post found animals online, so check their websites frequently.
Update your pet’s microchip. Microchips are the number 1 reason we are able to reunite so many found pets with their families.
Inform local vets. Typically, if the finder isn’t aware of lost and found pet groups such as ours, they are likely to take a found pet to a local vet.

Introducing Pets
Introducing a new pet to the household can be an exciting but delicate process, especially if you already have existing pets.
